This gorgeous adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic children's story is well worth watching with the whole family. Produced for Canadian television, it's one of those rare productions that actually sticks to the book and even enhances it through first-rate performances and an excellent script. Set on bucolic Prince Edward Island in the late 19th century, Anne of Green Gables is the story of Anne Shirley, an imaginative and headstrong orphan. When brother and sister Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help Matthew work the farm, they are astonished when Anne arrives at the train station by mistake. "What use is she to us?" grumbles the gruff Marilla. "We might be of some use to her," answers Matthew, who has taken an instant liking to the talkative Anne. As Anne grows up, her adventures are both hilarious and moving. It's a delight to watch as she forms a friendship with the beautiful Diana and her admirer--the dashing Gilbert Blythe--then dyes her hair green, cracks a slate over Gilbert's head when he calls her "Carrots," and finds a sympathetic teacher who encourages her to attend college. Richard Farnsworth is perfect as the shy and gentle bachelor Matthew, who confides to Anne that he never went courting because "I would have had to say something." Colleen Dewhurst delivers a nuanced and powerful performance as Marilla, a seemingly cold-hearted spinster whose no-nonsense exterior conceals a warm heart. And as Anne, Megan Follows strikes the perfect note, maturing from freckle-faced orphan to elegant and poised young woman. --Elisabeth Keating

Comment: Being a Reiki Master and Teacher I am always looking for ways to teach the concept of Manifestation of your desires. Anne of Green Gables LIVES the concept. Being able to live with the joy of "imagining" how puffed sleeves will make her feel, is an amazing description of the "art of manifestation."
Anne's ability to "imagine" herself out of any negative situation or to "imagine" the most beautiful outcome for any everyday occurence is amazing.
I would recommend that everyone who reads this book, try that "imagination technique" especially if they are finding blockages in their life in abundance or happiness.
I went into a project where I was hoping to make some money but doubting my ability to do this. I read Anne of Green Gables JUST BEFORE leaving home and I "Imagined" myself ending the day with my money box full. It was and all my expenses were paid whereas others around me were complaining that the day was slow and they made very little money. I kept that "joyful" feeling with me all day which had me smiling all day. I think I was also imagining I was wearing puffed sleeves, which I love.
I intend to use Anne's puffed sleeves story as a tool in my teaching practise, it is so powerful.

Summary: Excellent Collection for Anne Fans!!
Comment: If you are an Anne fan you NEED this collection and you'll LOVE this collection. Definitely worth the price. The packaging is beautiful as well. All 5 disks are great. I had never seen "The Continuing Story" and was not disappointed. Watching the additional 5th disk w/ info behind the movie and the original creation of Anne has added even more to the meaning to the whole story. Love it! Love it!

Comment: Anne of Green Gables: The Collection is an amazing DVD collection with over 12 hours of greatness and extra features. I bought this for my mother and ended up watching it myself. I loved it and so will you. This is the kind of wholesome, quality TV that not only entertains, but also teaches good morals and values that are sadly missing in most of today's TV. Don't hesitate to pick up this family-friendly series that will have you laughing, crying, and wanting more!

Summary: A "Must See" for preteen girls
Comment: Both of my daughters loved the book and this film is so true to it. It is so empowering for young girls. When you realize what Anne has been through, yet still manages to excel, you want nothing but to cheer for her. It is truly a classic.
